Pennyworth is operated by Grace Episcopal Church, and is an entirely-volunteer-run store that benefits a number of charities and organizations. While it takes donations, it also seems to be selective.

Most items were current, stylish and in very good condition. For example, we found a beautiful blue satin cocktail dress for $10. There were J. Crew sweaters for $3, DKNY dress pants for $6, and a Ralph Lauren cardigan for $3. We’re disappointed the sweater was too big for us, but we snapped a memory when we tried it on. It had gold-tone buttons with embossed anchors, and your girl blogger was almost sold by that feature alone.

The store can get busy on the weekend, but friendly volunteers are plentiful and happy to answer any questions. If you want to try something on, ask for the key to the ladies’ room.

If you’re grabbing a bite to eat or doing some shopping in downtown Silver Spring, stop by Pennyworth to see if anything catches your eye.
