H. Darling holds pop-up shop in Logan Circle (photos)

I met Hadiya at sewing class at Ginger Root Design earlier this fall, and she recently got in touch to tell me about an event she was holding: a pop-up shop at Veranda, a bar/restaurant just off Logan Circle.

Well of course I had to stop by.

The sale was small, with two racks of clothing and a table of shoes and accessories. But several women rifled through the racks that offered both big-name labels and locally-designed items. The event gave Hadiya a chance to clean out her closet while promoting her personal shopping services and supporting a local designer whose name I have misplaced and will have to edit in later.

I scored a pair of gray Gap dress pants that I think Hadiya may have worn once. Knowing they would have been at least $60 new in the store, I was more than willing to pay $25 for an immaculate, pressed pair.

By the way, Veranda was the perfect spot on this sleepy Saturday afternoon. Friendly staff, plenty of room at the bar, and they welcomed a few patrons who were reading books and Kindles at the counter. Aww. That's sweet.

Photos after the jump.

Goodwill Travelin' Trunk Show housekeeping notes

If you missed the Goodwill Holiday Travelin' Trunk Show at Caramel last night, you really missed some good shopping. It was great to meet some of the faces behind Goodwill. Those wonderful faces have reminded me of a few notes that I'd like to share while we all wait patiently for me to get around to posting pictures. :)

--There's a contest! If you attended the show last night, you have until Monday to post a photo of yourself wearing your new finds. Upload it to the DC Goodwill Fashionista Facebook page or tag it on Twitter @dcgf. The winner will receive a Goodwill gift card!

--Goodwill is looking for a few good writers for the Fashionista blog. If you'd like to volunteer to write about the sweet finds you can score at Goodwill, fashion trends, and events, drop a line! Goodwill would be glad to have you.

I'll have pictures of my own finds up later this weekend.

Weekend events: Vintage all over

From Hella Tuff's Facebook album
There are so many events this weekend for nostalgic dressers that it will be pretty easy to track me down. That's not an invitation to follow me. But it is an invitation to say hello if you run into me at any of the following:

Goodwill Holiday Travelin' Trunk Show at Caramel: Friday from 5 to 8. Don't forget to bring some clothes to donate; you'll get a discount to use at Caramel. Goodwill's selections will be moderately priced, as usual.

Hella Tuff Basement Boutique opening: Saturday 11-5. Stop by and welcome all this new vintage goodness to our lives. (We'll have a Q & A with the seller posted tomorrow.)

Midcity Holly-days: Saturday and Sunday on U Street and in the general vicinity. So many great local shops and restaurants are involved. And in a neighborhood that's so into vintage, it's sure to be worth a browse.

Vintage at Veranda: Release--Featuring hand picked, designer vintage threads, shoes and accessories, Vintage @ Veranda on December 11, 2010 will have something for everyone. Tired of the same 'ol same old?  Spice up your wardrobe with designers like Chanel, Gucci, Valentino and more at prices you won't believe!  Ladies, this is the perfect spot to find that one of a kind piece for your scheduled holiday functions.  Guys, H.Darling is working hard to have a few threads on deck for you as well!

That should be plenty to get you started this weekend. If you know of other events worth checking out, give a holler.

Get ready for MidCity shopping events in December

Two events I'd like to quickly highlight today as they go on my personal calendar:

Fashion:District returns, for a price

In which Your Girl Blogger has conflicting thoughts about an event:

Reasons to go:
-All the cool fashionistas will be there
-The pop-up shops will have beautiful items for sale, and shoppers will be supporting local businesses
-It's easy to get to (Circulator! 96 bus! Walk from the Woodley Metro!)
-Watching DC's fashion scene develop is inspiring and causes many warm fuzzies

Reasons to skip it:
-Spring's fashion:district cost $10 to get in. Since this girl blogger missed her chance to buy a fashion show ticket, she missed what was probably the best part of the night.  This year, it's $25 to get in ($35 for all-access which includes a swag bag and open bar).  For fashionistas on a budget who'd like to actually be able to buy something from the pop-up vendors, $25 is no small change.
-If you get up early (like this girl), beware of timing. Spring's fashion show started about an hour late, and while we can't make assumptions, we will say that fashion runs on its own schedule. Be prepared for a late night.
-There will be enough multimedia afterward that you'll still be able to see the runway looks.

Are you going?  If so, get your ticket NOW as this event will sell out pronto.

Fashion's Night Out in Georgetown is finally here

Yes, friends, the night we've all been waiting for has come. Your girl blogger will be out on the town tonight, so check back after the event for deep thoughts on the deals, the fashion show, and of course, the styles on the streets of Georgetown.
